The dreadful truth is that there are still so many religious nut cakes out there who insist on deigning the fact that 911 was a classic example of dreadful irrational religious faith threatening world concord.

I reckon that when people believe in a God, (and of course this does not go for everyone), it allows them to ignore and dismiss extremely vital situations such as environmental hurt, the poor/wealthy apportion, equality, suffering, violence, drug addiction because they attribute any form of suffering to sin or improper religious practise.
For example, Evangelist Pat Robertson, thought that the Earthquakes in Haiti were the result of, “a pact with the devil”!
Phelps is another contender.
That’s is in no way why Atheists refute religion. It has nothing to do with having terrible luck or being ‘dealt a bum hand’ as you place it.
It would be patronising and… to be honest, downright ignorant for someone to believe the only reason an Atheist/Agnostic disbelieves in religion is because of being sour.
To be humorous; the problem with religious people is that they use their beliefs to justify their own means and to selfish ends.

@TYREL2010 I am an atheist. I don’t feel like I have a “bum deal”. Quite the opposite. I feel overwhelmingly fortunate to be alive at all. There are billions of molecules that didn’t turn into anything at all. The point not being that I feel terrible but I feel so perfectly pleased that I’m not going to ruin and waste my life worshiping a myth. So maybe you should stick to your bible and place the actual thinking to each person for themselves.
This UN initiative surprises nobody. Islam has being held hostage by fundamentalist extremist for a while now. In the United Kingdom they march carrying banners that read: “FREEDOM CAN GO TO HELL”. Very sad what’s going on with that fantastic religion.
