First, you make a very terrible thought that America is being ruined. America is certainly going through a rough patch – along with the rest of the world – but America will recover.

As much disdain as I have for many of our current political class, to blame “politics” for the ills for America is ludicrous. Politics – even in its hideous forms – is what allows the citizens of this country to participate in their own governance.

I would argue that apathy toward politics by the people of America is harmful to the country, not the politics itself. If people do not care enough to participate in their own governance, then it is their own fault if the government they get is not the government they want.

We don’t have a two-party system. We have a multi-party system in which most people associate with one of the two major parties because they either don’t see the others as viable, or because many of the others are nutcase parties. (Realistically, it seems to be a combination of both.)

Semantics aside, the two-party system is not certainly not perfect. It is also not mandated by the law. If another party comes along that can capture the will and imagination of the people, that party will become a major party and we will either have a three-party system or one of the current two will at a snail’s pace fade into obscurity, as has happened multiple times in our history. The most recent time this nearly occurred was with the Reform party starting in the early 90s. Until somebody can come along, though, and pitch something that is clearly seen by people as a better thought, the current two major parties will maintain primacy.

And until somebody comes along and articulates better thoughts, that is appropriate.

No. The third or alternatives are not barred from contesting elections or from any political actions. The democratic pluralism in the US does permit people to organize and stat a new political party of their choice with manifesto abiding the Constitution and not violating the laws of the land. But just reckon how best could be a solution to a problem stay in different styles for execution? The two major parties have enough reckon tank to arrive at the aptly choice if they are really serious on national issues, which means they must be of people of high devotion and dedication to their political service and so they must be selected by the people accordingly. If the people does not choose their leaders aptly, then blaming the party for failure holds no water.

It is to the people, by the people, for the people, that the theme of democracy stands and not for the political fashion to manage things in their own way. We the people do not want to check our system of our governance to be meaningful and orderly but we simply want the results after the election of the Head and the members of the congress! The democracy means that people needs to be organized to voice their concern when the politics deviates from the policies framed by the constitution of the nation and by the party that governs! If this is not done, not just two party, any amount of political parties in surgical course of action will never serve the nation for movement for the welfare of people!

For example the war in Vietnam not just finished by a senate margin choice but for the people stood against the war by massive anti-war protests across America! So, it is a relentless public CHECKMATE OF CONGRESS by their outburst to keep the the events of the nation in democratic track makes it to sustain for the welfare of the people!

without a system of Checks and Balances between the White House , the House of Representatives and the Senate there is no 2 party system , the Republicans in the Congress are nothing more than a Canard or a straw dog.

so if you feel that the American way is being Ruined thank Barack Obama , Nancey Pelosi and Harry Reid

    Have a nice day Comrade

What’s bringing us down is not the number of political parties, nor politics in general. It is that we have come to view politics as we do professional sports; we care, first and foremost, which “team” is “winning.” This colors our perceptions of aptly and incorrect, what best serves America, even our own personal belief systems. We will believe and do anything that the political mouthpieces, who perpetuate our 24 hour news cycle, tell us to. If “the other team” gets their candidate elected, we despise him just because of the uniform he wears. If “our team’s” candidate wins, we will like him just because of our team loyalty. If someone is loyal to the “other ream,” we view them as the enemy, even though we are fellow Americans. We are Republicans, Democrats, Independents – just as surely as we are Packers, Vikings, or Cowboys. That hatred or loyalty is clouding our judgment, causing us to choose against our country’s best interests – without even realizing it.

No, excessive television and lack of political literacy is what’s destroying America. Take this post and nearly every other one on Yahoo Answers as an example of the general population. People on here are mad and they can’t even thoroughly give reasons for what they’re mad about, they just repeat what they hear like incompetent parrots.

People complain about gigantic government spending under Obama, but by 2004 Bush was increasing the Federal Spending more than any other Head in the last 30 years. Let alone he took our strong country in 2000 and left us with the economic depression and social disunity that we currently have (worst since the Fantastic Depression). People have to be stupid and ignorant on a colossal scale to ignore what happened over the last eight years, and place the blame on the current Head.

At least if people held conservative values back in the day, they could give reasons for their allegations with concrete knowledge that they derived from credible new sources. People today just watch Fox News and take note to Rush Limbaugh, and reckon that they’re political experts who can fix the economy if things were done their way. Small do they even realize that they’re being swindled and manipulated by people who’s job it is to spread propaganda, not to inform.

Our declining culture and intelligence is what’s destroying America. Before television, people wouldn’t of allowed themselves to be manipulated so easily by persons who don’t even do a decent job hiding who they are. The reliance on television and radio to be a reliable source has led considerably to the downward spiral.

We’re brought up to believe and assume that we’re the greatest country on Earth, and that things will always be that way regardless. But, it took hard work and initiative to make it to the top, ignorance and a sedentary lifestyle will just as easily remove us. When stupid stout people set the standards in any society, there isn’t much to be expected from its people.
