China was weak because the country’s people were fighting each other. The warlords each restricted small territories, and no single warlord could repel the modernized Japanese forces. The Koumintang government was fighting the Communists, and they couldn’t get their shit together to repel the Japanese.
The warlords wouldn’t unite, and Chiang-Kai-shek’s Koumintang was weak.
