What is the best way to get into politics?
I’ll bе hοnеѕt I used tο find politics dυll until recently. I аm 19 years ancient аnd wουld really lіkе tο know more аbουt whаt іѕ going οn wіth ουr government. Thе problem іѕ thе news doesn’t seem tο cover whаt goes οn thаt much аnd thе amount οf information thаt іѕ out thеrе іѕ kind οf over-whelming. I аm having dіѕtrеѕѕ trying tο figure out whаt іѕ relevent аnd whаt isn’t. Sο іf anyone саn please point mе іn thе aptly direction I wουld really appreciate іt.
Volunteer on local campaigns and you’ll initiation networking your way up to the top.
“What is the best way to get into politics?”
Step 1: Lie through your teeth.
For example: You dont want to get into politics. You want to serve the community.
Get involved in local politics. Most communities post notices of scheduled meetings you can attend, but if it’s a small town, it’s dull as all get-out. Full of eminent domain issues, dogs running loose and traffic illumination. But the county level is a bit more appealing.
You have to like “speechifying.” You have to like hand-shaking and smiling nonstop.
I personally find it much more appealing to be involved behind the scenes supporting other candidates.
you are aptly that the news doesn’t cover what is really vital. They cover politics like it is a sport – who’s in front, what excellent plays have been made, what errors, what’s the strategy for winning the pennant.
I would get a few serious political journals, like The New Republic, The National Review. Read the Sunday NY Times “Week in Review” every week. Take note to National Public Radio. Watch C-Span. Persons are your best sources for national political happenings.
Attend your local city council meetings. Sometimes they are on community door television. That’s the closest political proceedings. It will be an eye opener.
If you are in college, take some political knowledge classes. If you aren’t, go to college. As far as the depth of coverage and reporting, the NYTimes is the best followed by the Washington Post. CSPAN’s Washington Journal is probably the best look at politics on television. If that is too overwhelming, cable news will get you acclimated to a point with the people and issues but it is not entirely trustworthy. Fox News is not trustworthy at all. Best of luck.
Really the only way is to join a campaign by volunteering. You have to make a name for yourself among the volunteers. Then once you have proven yourself you will at a snail’s pace go up the ranks. The more people you help win the more political capital you build up. Eventually you can call in nepotism and get people to back you in a small election or two.
This would be the wise way to get into politics where your limits would be limited only by your ability. Or you could just run for a dull local office that has few people interested in running for it. The down side to that is that you are most liable not to make a difference or go up the political ladder.
