What does media consolidation have to do with free speech?

First οf аll I dο nοt know whаt media consolidation іѕ. And whаt dοеѕ іt hаνе tο dο wіth free speech?

    More and more, large numbers of newspapers, tv and radio stations are owned by the same companies. Even in the same city. With less struggle between the mediums, there is less opportunity for reporting and comment that would contradict the reporting and comment from competing media. Thus, if one newspaper prints lies, for example, there may not be another medium to call attention to the fact that they lied. Trust me, this is NOT excellent.
