Feed the hungry. House the homeless. Educate the jobless. Secure our borders. Protect the earth. Explore the universe. Establish complete justice. Preserve our freedoms. Protect the Constitution from the extremists, to left and the Right. Bring that rare commodity, common sense, to government.

Is that too much to ask?

My intent is to ceaselessly promote the spirit of common sense on Capitol Hill. Once I am there, the main topic of conversation throughout the House offices will be "Senator Hendrix isn't gonna like that". Legislation which is sensible, understandable, and useful will receive my full support, regardless of the originating party. This business of opposing an idea just because the other party thought of it first, is stupid, wasteful, and feeds the American people's contempt of their own government.

All too often, good pieces of legislation are assaulted by selfish Representatives who think they can tack on pieces of their own agenda in exchange for their support. Take a week off and read last year's Transportation Bill. Usually this kind of ammendment involves some type of "pork" for their home state. Some people would call this "bribery" but I won't say that. Our respected Senators and Congressmen are above that kind of disregard for law and morals, aren't they? I will have to stick by my principles and use the delicate party balance in the Senate to make sure no more of this kind of garbage gets past me.
