Our military is the finest in the world and it is going to stay that way.

The Special Forces Battalion based in Okinawa has announced that it is buying parts for the HK416 to modify the tempermental M4 carbine issued to most U.S. Troops. It has long been known that the M-16, and it's sibling the M-4, were both prone to jamming under harsh conditions. (like combat, maybe?) The HK design is much more dependable.

The Army would rather wait on the development and testing of more exotic weapons. Meanwhile, our trooops curse and bash their M-4 receivers with their fists while the enemy empties clip after clip from their old reliable AK-47's.

History repeats itself. Just like in Vietnam, some of our people, who are not anxious to enter Valhalla just yet, are picking up the Kalashnikov's to improve their chances of staying alive.

Damaged Humvees are being shipped from combat zones to depots in the U.S. for rebuilding and retro-fitting with latest armor. Has any one wondered why the material and skilled personel aren't sent to Iraq instead. One would think that saving a few hundred million here and there would help the war effort. But then the main location for all this work is in Texas . . .
The Military.com story is here.

I have heard many recite conventional wisdom that in order to support our military, one must always vote Republican. This is not the case. I will never consent to cutting a military budget for political purposes. When I was serving, I remember looking at my truck and thinking, "I'm going to war in this piece of junk?" My son quoted the same thought to me just before he shipped out to Iraq. We can not allow this to happen again.

New Stryker Faring Poorly in Field
The Army likes it, wants it, but the G.I.'s who have to use it don't. Read the Military.Com story.

DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE?
A North Dakota manufacturer has agreed to pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit with the Justice Department. The manufacturer provided the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan with 2.2 million faulty helmets.
So what does the government do? Turns around and gives the same manufacturing company a $74 million contract to produce more helmets to replace the old ones. The Defense Department claims to be unaware of any injuries resulting from the defective helmets. Yeah, right. See if you can read all of this NY Times Story without your jaw dropping. Sioux Manufacturing is owned by the Spirit Lake Nation. Soldiers can not sue the U.S. Government for suffering caused by stupidity. Should they chose to assert tribal soverignty, nobody can sue the Sioux.
