What books would you reccommend for someone who wants to learn about American politics and history?
Preferably more on politics side! I’m Canadian and I want to be more aware of what’s happening in other countries. Any really good books that can give me further insight (or rather any insight at all) into how American politics work and the history of it all would be really great.
The History of Baptists
On the one hand, Baptists have always been staunch supporters of the separation of church and state and freedom of conscience – and many Baptist churches remain. Southern Baptists, but it became the largest and most powerful in contrast to the separation of church and state, personal freedom and independence in America. Baptists for centuries gives a chronology of key events in Baptist life and thought of the seventeenth to the twentieth century. As the Baptists spread throughout the world with their British and American sources, Bebbington convincingly demonstrates how they are constantly adopted to the cultures and societies where they lived, creating greater diversity within an already multifaceted identity.
It means to great awakening American religion and politics should not be underestimated. When this spiritual enthusiasm swept through the country, encourages people to take an independent position regarding religious matters, and even easier to give up what the church was originally made in. This, of course, proved the benefit of new, more radical, such as Baptist churches.
Baptist Convention is not intended to be used any doctrinal authority of the individual churches, but the situation has changed and this change of attitude is one of the most serious and dramatic changes ever Baptist theology. The church, which started the radical ideals of independence has become the church is based on an authoritarian fundamentalist. Moderate Baptists see the authority of the role of persuasion and leadership are a dictatorship. Fundamentalists want the pope to the pulpit and then the pope popes unless it also applies to issues related to their emphasis on dogma rather than on individual interpretation. Women in ministry is based on the concept of personal data, which requires in turn based on the concept of direct contact with God, spirit and human consciousness.
Baptists consider the Scriptures and exclusive state enough faith and practice. In the interpretation of them, every individual is at liberty. No system of unbiblical doctrines and rights are recognized as authoritative. Fundamentalists insist now on a set of beliefs that the authorities must be held by all the faithful and accountability must be made to the authorities.
