I’m doing an assignment and I need a topic. The topic has to be a current event involving American government and politics. Anyone have any suggestions?

What were the major turning points of transformations in the politics and goverment of ancient civilizations that provide the foundations for democracy or expansions of individual rights? Your answer should include examples from European, Asian and other civilizations.

1-structural functional approach what they say about the function of politics?
2-social conflict approach ( what they say about the function of politics)

3-symbolic interaction approach( what they say about the function of politics)

I am getting fascinated on the early politics in the United States (roughly from independence to 1820 or so), where there seemed to be deep disagreement among different factions (say, Hamilton vs Jefferson) along with the difference between different colonies and the influence / fights with France and Britain.

What are some good sources (books, online, etc.) to learn more about that part of the history?
